Usually, your personal profile has fewer open doors than pages. Rather, opening a photography page helps you to open more doors. Here the users can share, like, comment, and engage. Create group with the photography lovers, share tips & tricks to teach them, and you also can ensure user involvement.

Post from your best photos one or two per day on Facebook. Saturday is the best day for photo sharing since most of your audience flock in social media during the weekends. Remember that your best photo to you, may not be the best photo in your Facebook page. That does tell you one thing, you can use your page to identify which of your images are popular. But, please remember that the photo that is not popular today, may be very popular tomorrow. So, revise and reuse your photos at regular basis.

To engage more traffic: announce special events & new products, post new photos, links to posts from your blog, offer contests, talk about behind the scenes of photography, share some tips & tricks related to having the best photographs, share content which inspires you most and so on.

Five Lighting Arrangements For Your Product Photography.

What camera should I buy? -is one of the most frequently asked question asked by many. It is a common belief of many that good pictures require advanced cameras and photography kits. Indeed a camera with advanced kits is very important, but this is not the only thing to execute a successful photography. There are several other factors one must consider to get the desired output. Among the important features, lighting is one of the most vital element of photography. No matter what photo does one take, without proper product photography lighting arrangement, the photograph does not come alive.

 Product Photography

In this article we’ll look at the lighting arrangements of product photography. Product photography is a whole different branch of photography. It requires special expertise and prior experience to bring out the accurate and desired photos. Since products are put up for sale, they must look appealing to the customers. Needless to say, a sad looking product won’t never sell, or even if it sells, it won’t generate much of a profit.  Product photographs are mostly shown in e-commerce site, personal company website and profile, TVC, PPC, Billboards, brochure etc. Although in photography post production, the lights, colors, and exposure could be retouched, natural and live lighting arrangement always give the best output.

 Product Photography Lighting

Product Photography Lighting

Among the most frequently advised product photography tips, the first thing that comes on top of the list is photography lighting. Without appropriate lighting, the product will be less eye-soothing to the consumers, which will result in a low selling rate. So, what actually are the lighting arrangements? How should we apply or arrange the lightings? Do we need to be experts of lights? Not necessarily. Here are five quick, easy, and effective lighting formation. Just pick any of the arrangement you prefer for your products.

 Pre-production Arrangement

Before going into the arrangements, let us look at the kits you need for the lighting. Apart from the natural sunlight, light bulbs, camera flash, studio lights, diffusion sheet, white background, light tents, soft boxes, stand, tripod etc.

Setting the Background

White backgrounds are the most common set up for product photography. This background reflects the light perfectly from all sections and creates a glowing atmosphere. As a result, the products shine. Other than white background, there are several ways to use the bulbs to improvise the image. We’ll discuss about them in next section.

Setting the Background

Manage Your Light Control

Tradition bulbs and studio lights, both are used in product photography. While traditional bulbs are becoming obsolete now-a-days, studio lights are very popular in product photography. However, since lights and bulbs are direct and sharp on the photo, it is very difficult to retain the exotic look of the product.

Manage Your Light Control

For that we must use diffusion kits to balance the sharpness and direct light from the bulbs. There are three ways to diffuse the lights- Diffusion Sheet, Light Tent, and Soft Box. To learn more about product photography lighting kits, click here.

Now let us look at the five formation or arrangements of product lighting.

1.The Light-box with Reflection: Create a box with a packaging box, tracing/white papers or sheets. Place two soft box or studio box light on left and right side of the paper box. Place a glass inside the box, but make sure you have a white background beneath the glass too. Now, place the product in the middle of the glass. Shoot your product until you get your perfect shot.

2.Top and Umbrella Light against White Background: A product placed on a white surface against a white background will look great if a light is placed on the top and two umbrella lights are aimed from two corners. In this way, the product will get full lighting attention from all corners and from the above, plus the white surface and background will reflect the light which eventually will create a glowing atmosphere.

3.Lighting From Below Through a Transparent Surface: A transparent glass is needed for this kind of lighting. A soft light should be placed under the glass table pointing upwards and the product will be placed over the glass. Glass products, for example, bottles, jars, show pieces, and other glossy items are the best option for this kind of photography. To show the name of the product properly, use another light from the top. In this way, the product will be in a sandwich of light. Now, shoot until you get your perfect one.

arrangements of product lighting.

4.Lighting from the Back: Back lighting sounds difficult to handle. Indeed it is, but it can offer much more if handled tactfully. It is also called the Rim-Lighting. Two lights can be placed on the background, one in the left corner and another in the right corner. The problem is that, until you place black box in the middle of the light, the light frame you’re looking for won’t come out. Therefore, place a box to create shadow and then shoot your photo.

5.Fill in Light and White Background Photography (Large Products): If you want to shoot a large product, for example a chair or a bookshelf, make sure you place the lights from every angle where the photo is going to be shown. Place the product in front of a white background. Lit a blub above the product and use two fill lights from two angels. In this way, no shadow will be created. Adjust the exposure and aperture of your camera and shoot. Before shooting, you can also use a grey card which will ensure that no outside lights are hampering the product.

Post-Production

Once you’re done with your photo-shoot, you may send them for post processing. In many occasions, after the photo-shoot, you’ll be needing clipping path, ghost mannequin, or masking service to remove thee products from backgrounds. These features are skillfully handled by image editing service providers. Since you’re a busy photographer and lack time to readjust and extract images one by one, all you need to do is, send the pictures to any prominent and trusted photo editing service provider.

post-production

Post-processing from outside surely will save you time in exchange of a little money. Remember, the money you spend in post-processing is actually saving you more, because time is money and you’re saving time here.

How to Boost Your Creativity by Learning Abode Photoshop

When you explore lovely digital art and compare it with the items you draw with a pencil, you’ll feel astounded and reduced. If solely you’ll afford a graphics pill, you’ll be even as good! And if you have already got a pill, your thought is, “If solely I may afford Photoshop! Such a lot of wonderful things are often finished this package.” And if you have each a pill and good package, you are dreaming concerning the godlike Wacom Cintiq—the larger, the better. But, until then, you are stuck. You cannot be any higher. And it isn’t your fault, it’s all concerning money!

This is probably why there’s a misconception that digital art isn’t real art. After all, a real artist needs to learn all these hard things, master pencils, brushes, color mixing, different kinds of pigment, and they can’t just undo a mistake! And when they finish, their art is one of a kind, it exists physically, it’s not just an array of digits that you can copy infinitely. At the same time, a digital “artist” buys some expensive equipment and that’s all—they can now produce outstanding art. That’s cheating, isn’t it?

Let’s see what we can find further.

What are the advantages of learning Photoshop

Whenever you learn something, you get many benefits. Some of them can be visible and others may not be. Hence, it can be difficult to pin down the exhaustive list of benefits, but I will try.

1.It makes Image Processing, Computer Vision etc. learning easy

You have learnt Photoshop and you have been working with it and hence many image processing concepts are much intuitive to you, compared to those guys who are going to hear it for the first time. For an example, high pass filter. If you have dealt with Photoshop, you can visualize what exactly high pass filter does and hence the formulation for it would be easier for you to understand or even figure out. (In one of my exam, a similar question was asked, and I didn’t know the formulation. Nevertheless, thanks to Photoshop, I derived the formulation in the exam.)

It makes Image Processing, Computer Vision etc. learning easy

Apart from that, you come across many scenarios, where you wish you had better results. For an example, if you want to select a person from one image and paste it to the other, you need a lot of effort in “selection” of the person. (In other terms, you need to tell your Photoshop which are the edges of a person so as you don’t end up cut-pasting more or less than the exact person. I think an example would better explain things. Image obtained from Kush Technologies via Google Image Search.)

So, in these courses, when you learn the fundamentals, you are eager to solve your problem of “selection”. You understand the importance of the edge detection problem. You are eager to know how that can be done automatically, and you learn some really complicated things easily. (Or may be if you are too involving, you end up developing an algorithm for it too.)

2.Amazing UI/ UX or web page design

While designing UI of an application or web pages, more so often, we have an image in our mind about how we want to make it look alike. But we are limited in implementation in a sense that we don’t know how to create those fancy images. Oh you know Photoshop?

Amazing UI/ UX or web page design

Great! Now the only bottleneck is your imagination. However fancy or Sci-Fi you imagine your web page or App, you can make it look like that exactly. And this will definitely help you stand apart from ordinary stereotypical apps or webpages. (Assuming your App/web page is strong technically too.)

3.Enhanced presentations, reports etc.

You have worked laboriously on a project. Currently you wish to organize a report. For that, you wish a picture from your textbook. (That image isn’t out there directly on the web or the standard of the out there image isn’t pretty much as good as you want.) Not a problem; you recognize Photoshop, right?

Enhanced presentations, reports etc.

The clicked image is low distinction, has some grey background because of pages etcetera, however you’ll correct those things. Excluding that, you’ll utterly style your presentation theme to suite your project. A nice style presentation would undoubtedly build an impression.

In addition to, learning Photoshop will give you an additional advantage of learning about 3D graphics. You can beautifully render images in 3D, create 3D designs and so on.

Eventually, you would like to use your computer engineering skills to solve problems in a ‘domain’ – be it art (Photoshop is an amazing example), industrial applications, finance, research, entertainment, education, etc. etc. etc.

This means you learn how things are done at any given time in that domain, and understand how they could be done better/faster/more efficiently/accurately/transparently and so on using your skills.

Understanding colors are the most basic aspect. Being able to manipulate them, being able to make the reproducible and useful changes, in colors and storing them in image files is what make Photoshop such an amazing tool. But not just that! Understanding how the monitor that renders colors on the screen and therefore making sure what you are doing in the processing is also faithfully reproduced by the monitor is also something you can understand.

You can be privy to an amazing world if only you are interested in Photoshop.

Photography has stepped and passed over the conventional barrier with the introduction of image editing software and different types of effects. As trends change, new things replace the existing things in the market. Image editing has become the trend of the new era. It has become an essential part of photography. Whether you are a professional or a part-timer, you hardly can avoid image editing software. Professional photographers use professional image editing software like Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Lightroom, Fotor, Corel etc. A photographer may need software for different purpose depending on the client and his/her personal needs.

On the other hand, smartphone users mostly edit images using image editing apps. Generally, most of the windows editing software are available in android or IOS version. Also, there are some special dedicated apps for smartphone editing, for example, snapseed, VSCO, Enlight, Touch Retouch etc.

Image Editing Software and Effects

There are some photography apps which have built in editing feature. Take Instagram as an example, where you can edit your photos. The purchase of Instagram by Facebook authority depicts how much popular photography has become in recent times. Instagram has introduced a whole new era of introducing ourselves and expressing our thoughts through photography.

Built in effects and filters are very popular and trendy in recent times. There are some very popular effects and filters that are used frequently by many. Some of the trendy effects and filters are Black and White (B&W), Vintage, Cinematic, Lomo, Bloom, Toy etc. in recent times, it’s rare to find any picture without filters or effect. Although some may argue that filters reduce and hamper the originality of the photo, some would definitely back it up by bringing the photography post processing importance. Whatever the arguments are, most people seem to believe that photo editing enhances the appeal of the photo and makes it look better.

Experiment

Experimenting with the subject, color, light, and theme is the new trend of photography. People have come out from the conventional ‘pose and smile’ concept and bringing new perspective to look at something differently. Perspective photography is the trendiest way to shoot now. It’s hard to find a person who would like perspective photography. This trend has become so popular that people are choosing their specialization in perspective photography. Take the example of bug’s eye view or bird’s eye view– in such cases the photographer looks at the world from a non-human point of view which makes each and every photograph unusual and interesting. Another excellent and newest technique is forced perspective in photography. In forced perspective, photographers capture objects in a way which makes the object look unreal, surreal, unusual, or unearthly. Take the example of picking the tip of the Eifel Tower or the Taj Mahal in your two fingers, or holding the sun in your hand. Even if you didn’t capture these, at some point of your internet browsing, you’ve surely seen these pictures.

Even if you didn’t capture these, at some point of your internet browsing, you’ve surely seen these pictures.

Shapes and pattern photography is another popular way which is trending now. Shapes, lines, boxes etc. are some of the common patterns in experimental photography. You don’t need to be a professional photographer or know all the rules to experiment with camera, all you need is just a creative mind and eyes that pay attention to every detail.

These brief points on recent photography trends are just the rough draft. It doesn’t end here. In the world of photography, the sky is not the limit. Exploration will go on, trend will keep changing, and new things will be coming.

How to Photograph Jewelry on a White Background

If you are an online jewelry shop owner, you want to display your products in the most alluring way possible to attract more customers. The main problem is that it is impossible to hire a professional photographer due to cost management or timing related issues. So what can you do? What could be the possible alternative?

You can take your own photos. It is possible for you to get great shots of your items if you have the proper equipment such as lighting and camera and a proper plan of action. It will help you to achieve your goal. We will discuss here how to photograph your jewelry on a white background which will lift you and your brand on a different level.

I am a professional photographer and graphic designer, so I think I can give you an acceptable suggestion on this issue.

1. Camera Settings

Depending on the brand of your camera, camera settings may differ. However, the references I am going to provide here, hopefully, will give you some idea of where to start or when your camera needs adjustment. I suggest my readers for using specific camera user manual of your own. This will help you to be familiar with adjustment settings of the camera. You also can take help from online resources.

unique camera setting image

Macro setting: Most digital cameras can be set in the macro mode for “up close” photography. This feature is usually indicated by a flower icon on all cameras.

Manual Mode:  This mode allows you to set and adjust certain settings rather than rely on camera’s default factory settings.

Aperture: This is the opening that allows the light into the camera. Jewelry photographers fix aperture settings before the photo shoot because the control allows for the exposure and depth of field in photos. A small aperture setting will make the entire jewelry piece in focus, whereas a larger aperture will make the closest area of the jewelry in focus. Set this on the highest setting available on your camera in order to have your entire piece in focus.

White Balance: This adjustment will make jewelry items appear in its real color. This setting depends on lighting conditions

Exposure Correction: This is a setting can manually adjust the brightness of the photos as you take them. This can be adjusted depending on photo background color and you can use (+) the setting to lighten your image and (–) the setting to darken your image.

Spot Focus: If available on your camera, it’s helpful to set the focus mode to “spot focus”. This allows you to control the camera focus.

2. The Photography Light Box

The Photography Light Box Image

The purpose behind the light box or light tent is to provide an evenly distributed diffused light that is bright, without causing a glare bouncing off your objects. You can purchase simple and very elaborate set ups online.

Illuminating Box Setup

The key is to use clear or frosted Plexiglas or another brand. These are all the essentially the same products, just different brand names. It also comes in different thicknesses and color.

3. Time to capture photos

Step-1: I have taken a series of photos to achieve the final look I want. With the white background, the white area seems a little over exposed but not jewelry item, especially with certain colors, metals (such as un-oxidized sterling silver) and gemstones. So, you can try different settings in order to achieve your best picture.

Step-2: With each photo, you can take written record of camera settings. It will help you see the difference and progression of each shot. So you can compare your results and make adjustments as needed. If you do not want to write, simply look at the photo properties in your editing software if it is needed.

Step-3: During photography, try to use the natural light source as much as possible. If it is not enough, then you may use lightbox, flash lights etc. Keep the camera in the same position.

Step-4: I’ve turned on all my normal light I use with my photography lightbox, along with my other lighting equipment’s.  Red, white, clear and bright silver are difficult to photograph and adjustments may need to be made when trying to capture these items. You can also re-adjust camera if photography is taken in dark environment.

4. Analysis of the captured photo

I have achieved my best results using the f-stop 8 with a shutter speed of 1/10 OR using the f-stop 4 with a shutter speed of 1/40. The difference in these photos is that more of the item will be in focus using the f8 while the f4 setting will produce a blurred/dreamy effect on the part of the item that’s the farthest away from the lens. If you want more of a dreamy look, simply lower the f-stop even more. Remember, your shutter speed will need to be adjusted accordingly.

Tips and Tricks for Product Photography Using iPhone

Smartphones like iPhones and Android phones has already got so powerful and can produce the quality outputs for which you would need at least a digital camera few years back. Today we are going to discuss how we can use iPhone S4/S5/S6 or later for product photography also apply ghost mannequin photography. Well, a DSLR camera should be the perfect candidate for this. But if we do not have a DSLR camera available readily for our work, we can shoot with our smartphones confidently. IPhones or other smartphones has a plus point. We always carry it with us. These are easily portable devices.

Where Is This Kind of Product Photography Applicable?

IPhone product photography is good enough for e-commerce websites. Online product sale through the web stores are growing rapidly. As a result, a load of product images are required for online display of the products. Sometimes, you may not find a professional photographer for your product photography. In that situation, the iPhone in your pocket can come to save you. With the improvements of camera technology of the recent smartphones, it is possible to do product photography with your smartphone for virtually any media except for the too large pictures for banners and billboards.

Things You Need

  • An iPhone

You already got an iPhone or Android or other smartphone which has high quality camera. IPhone 4/S, 5S, 6S or higher will do excellent for your product photos.

  • Tripod for iPhone

You need to buy the tripod for your phone. Tripod will help to omit blurriness caused by the shake of your hands while shooting. Most of the high end phones have stabilizer facility. But tripod will make sure that you are taking unshaken, crisp, and clear pictures. Do some web search to select a tripod within your budget?

  • Backdrop

We will use a white background most of the time. Most of the products stand out on a light colored background like white or light grey. We can easily make the background with white seamless paper.

  • A table or high top furniture

To work with ease you can set all the setup on a table or a higher surface. Place the total setup near the door or window if you opt for the natural light source.

  • Lights

Lighting is a very crucial factor for any type of photography. It is the heart of photography. For lighting we have 3 options. One is to use the natural light source i.e. the sunlight. Place the product near the door or window. Morning and afternoon is the best time to utilize the sunlight. 2nd option is to use normal household lights like table lamps etc. in an innovative way. Like you can use some white cardboards to reflect the light toward the product or object. Same cardboards can be used to block the distracting lights coming toward the phone.  3rd option is to use photography studio lighting setup. Needless to say that natural lighting is free. Household lights are the cheapest. If you go for the photography studio lighting option, you will need some initial setup cost. Depending on your budget, choose a lighting setup. If you do some research on lighting for photography, you will be able to produce bright and shiny images with any kind of lighting setup I mentioned here. The best shortcut is to start shooting right now and analyze the outputs for different gear positioning and setup, and phone app setup. When you will get some experience with some experimentation, you will start to become a pro for photographing with smartphones.

  • Camera+ app

It will be better to download Camera+ app. It will give us more control over the way we like our products to be photographed. We will be able to easily set the photography variables like aperture, shutter speed and ISO manually. We can set the focus to any area of the composition by tapping on the phone screen. We will be able to shoot on the desired exposure to suit our need.

A lens for phone

If we are not tight in budget, we can buy a lens for the phone camera. This will provide us more freedom. We can place our camera (phone) to a suitable place and shoot utilizing the optical zoom of the lens. If our product is small like the jewelry etc. we can use a narrow angle lens, so that the product will not look distorted in the photo.

Setting up Everything

  • Set Your Phone To Airplane Mode

This will help to avoid unwanted interruptions.

  • Auto-lock Feature Should Be Set To Never

This will prevent the phone from going to standby mode.

  • Set Your Light Sources Appropriately

If you are not using natural light source, to get professional output with smooth shadows, you need to use two light sources. For a simple lighting setup, place the light sources at around 45 degree angle to the object. One at the left side, the other at the right side. Fill light should be a lower power light than the key light.

Now it’s Time to Shoot

Everything is set up now for starting to shoot. First take few sample shots to adjust the lighting and other setups. Fine tune the Camera+ app settings, also. If you are getting the pictures as per your expectation. Your settings are okay. So why wait… keep clicking… After shooting if you need some image editing or image manipulations, do it using Photoshop. If you cannot manage to find time for photo editing, you can take help from a reputed image manipulation service providing company. Experts of a good graphic design company can make your product image to shine on the website. An attractive image will increase the sell of your product.

The Hidden Secrets about Ghost Mannequin Photography for Apparel Business.

The apparel industry has gone from the offline market to the online market that is e-commerce. Many large online shops are now selling apparel products or giving opportunities to small and large companies to sell their garment products.

If you are a hardworking and optimistic e-commerce web store owner, then I want to give you some valuable tips which can help you to lift your apparel e-commerce business at a new height. If you get benefit from this feature, do not forget to give a thanks to this professional photographer and graphic designers; yes, that’s me!

Tips 1:Let’s begin our discussion.

You must concentrate and give importance on the fact that your product must have to look good as much as possible. Why? Attractive garment photo can attract more customers. There is a basic problem arises when you go to shoot garments photo. Generally, when cloth samples are stored and transported, they become wrinkled, creased, and begin to look worn. The most critical part of apparel product photography is to prepare the garment item perfectly.

Many photographers depend on Adobe Photoshop to remove the unwanted wrinkle or stains from the clothes. But my suggestion is- “never do this”. Because Photoshop is not a magical thing which can give your apparel products an attractive look automatically. Years of expertise are needed to edit photos perfectly in Photoshop. Remember, excessive editing may hamper the quality of the image. From top to bottom, thoroughly examine your product. Remove unnecessary tags, stickers; repair damages and remove distractions. Try to capture the images as close as possible and use Photoshop only for the final touch.

Tips 2: Time to set up a photo studio

Almost any kind of room can be chosen for the photo studio. Collect camera, tripods, and white papers. A source of natural light is necessary during the preparation of your photo studio. For avoiding distraction and keeping the actual product color, you can use a white or light gray backdrop. Once the backdrop is ready, place your mannequin in the middle of the backdrop and in front of your camera. The camera is the most key part of a successful product photography. You may use a DSLR with minimum manual exposure and aperture settings. If it is expensive, you may use a smartphone too. Use a tripod for stabilization and a shake free photography. Place the product face to face position of tripod and camera. For different angles, move the products; not the tripod or camera.

Tip 3: Lighting

For apparel photography, natural window light source is the most inexpensive but high quality light source. Try to utilize the maximum of this natural light source. If the natural light source is not enough or you need some sorts of different lighting positions, you may collect lighting equipment’s. For a single light setup, you can collect light head, soft box, c-stand, battery pack, pocket wizard etc. However, now you have to determine the lighting position. If you are going to use the natural light source, position the mannequin near a window. Otherwise, you can use the light set up for your apparel photography.

Tip 4: Styling of mannequin

Generally, for apparel photography, models or mannequins are used to show the shape and fit of each garment item. However, for e-commerce website, it is not necessary to show them (mannequin) in every image. They can be removed by using Photoshop. But if you are an apparel e-commerce entrepreneur, you may not have enough time to edit all the garment images.

At first, you have to select a mannequin and fix a position for the final photo shoot. The first option is, you can also use a “ghost mannequin illusion” or graphically created mannequin by using Photoshop. The second option is, you can use a real mannequin to display your apparel products and after capturing images, you can remove the mannequin from the photo via Adobe Photoshop. Choose mannequin models according to your requirements.

You have done all the things perfectly, but your camera is in the wrong settings. All your efforts will be meaningless and bring no benefit. You must need to understand ISO, aperture, white balance settings of your camera before you start photographing. Set ISO limit at no greater than 600-640 because higher ISO causes gray spots or colored spots. It deteriorates the quality of images. For image sharpness, make sure that the ISO settings of your camera are properly adjusted.

Aperture, of camera settings (e.g. f/16, f/2.8), controls lens focus. The larger the aperture number, the more detail of the product in the image will be in full focus. A white balance of the camera should be adjusted to the nature of the light source or types.

Tip 6: A perfect photography

Now you are ready to proceed for your photo shoot. Allow the camera to focus your product and then take the shot. Take snaps as many as you can. The more you shot, the more detailed photos can be captured. Shot front and back, left to right up to down or from various angles.

The post production works are needed to give the ultimate professional look of apparel items. This includes various photo editing works before displaying the products on the website. For example- clipping path, background removal, neck joint of ghost mannequin, alignment and color correction.

Various statistics show that a clear and detailed photo of a product can boost up the sell in a tremendous way. So if you want the maximum financial benefit and create a brand value, you can follow these tips.

Have a good day!
